Clear Lake is often overlooked compared to famous NorCal destinations like Napa or Tahoe. But as the SF Gate article reveals, Clear Lake has plenty to offer visitors. Here are some highlights from the article:

  • "With over 40 wineries around Clear Lake, there are plenty of opportunities for wine tasting. Many of the wineries are small, family-run operations and offer a more intimate experience than the larger Napa estates." Recommended wineries include Wild Diamond Vineyards, Boatique Winery, and Fore Family Vineyards.

  • "Clear Lake is the largest freshwater lake in California, so it's a great spot for boating, sailing, kayaking, Stand Up Paddleboarding and other water sports." The article recommends kayaking on Cache Creek, renting electric boats at Blue Lakes, and swimming at Clear Lake State Park Beach.

  • "The small towns surrounding Clear Lake have lots of local flavor. Try the lakeside restaurants in Lakeport, or head to Nice for laidback cafes." The Saw Shop Public House is a must-visit classic dive bar.

  • "Hiking, swimming, fishing, boating, wine tasting - no matter what you want to do, Clear Lake has it." The area offers scenic hikes at Clear Lake State Park and the summit of Mount Konocti.

  • "Many of the high-quality grapes from around here ultimately land in cases with Napa labels. The cabernets and sauvignon blancs from seven appellations around the lake are superior, yet tastings and bottles cost a fraction of what they do in neighboring Napa."

The SF Gate article really captures everything that makes Clear Lake an under-the-radar gem. With incredible wine, stunning natural scenery, and small-town charm, Clear Lake is the perfect NorCal getaway.
